I live in Ashburnham, near Battle in East Sussex. Last year I succeeded in passing my foundation degree in garden design (with distinction) at Merrist Wood; I am now in my final year of study with the goal to achieve my BA this summer.
I have been a keen gardener for the past 23 years since I first owned my own cottage garden in 1990. I decided last summer the time was right to persue my love of plants and gardening professionally and in the autumn of 2011 embarked on studying for a degree in Garden Design at Merrist Wood in Surrey.
I think my passion has been growing and growing since a child. My mother has always been a really keen gardener and we have enjoyed the spoils of her hard work with beautiful rose and flower borders to enjoy as we were growing up playing in the garden. My father did his bit too and has always tended an immaculate and productive vegetable garden. Through their passion and the enjoyment of having experienced the flower garden and proceeds of the vegetable garden have rubbed off!
Since I started training I have succeeded in completing three really great garden internship opportunities which I am really thrilled about and thoroughly enjoyed. The first was at the RHS Wisley flagship garden in Surrey where I was lucky enough to become one of their interns during 2011; the second was working for several months with experienced garden designer (and member of the Society of Garden Designers) Jayne Thomas. During my time working for Jayne I helped her build her show garden at the 2012 Hampton Court Flower Show; Last year I was thrilled to have been accepted as one of two summer interns working at Raymond Blanc's famous hotel and kitchen garden in Oxford, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons. Details of all in my blog history!
Please feel free to either post a comment or drop me a line - I would love to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Julia
